Chile Operating Mines List

The 1990s marked the beginning of a boom in Chile’s mining industry, especially in copper mining, where many new projects came online during the decade. Fast forward to today, Chile has a 50+ billion-dollar project pipeline that is heating up due to the expectation that copper will play a huge part in the electrification of the world’s economies. The country already has an impressive number of mines with operations that will produce many decades into the future. In addition, Chile has substantial reserves of lithium which will also be needed for battery producers.

Recently, the Chilean Ministry of Mining and Energy reported that a total of 100 mining projects had their environmental permits approved during the first quarter of 2021. According to the ministry, the projects approved represent USD$25.6 billion dollars in investment. The projects will generate more than 83 thousand jobs in Chile: 57,282 in the construction phase and 23,619 in the operational phase.

Suppliers looking to grow internationally need to be in Latin America considering the outlook for the industry. Between Chile, Peru, and Brazil, there is a tremendous market.

We have compiled a list of already operating mines to help suppliers understand the existing opportunities which should help as they build their sales pipeline.
